Sihanoukville and Kampot

We spent our last week in Cambodia hanging out both on the beach and along a river. The Sihanoukville beach might have been more enjoyable if the bar owner near our hotel didn't think it a good idea to blast incredibly loud drumming from his bar for an hour or two in the evening and play music till 4 am.

No matter, we moved on and found a place for two more days three blocks away with a nice pool, a bigger room, quiet atmosphere and a lower price.

The view from our beachside room. The big boats are tour/party boats. Nope, didn't go!

I had lovely grilled scallops for dinner though. Tiny but sweet.

While Geordie got grilled shrimp.

On our first night there was a huge concert venue with a probably well known Cambodian pop star or two. The next day there was a half marathon - in that heat. We saw the runners but I didn't capture any of them.

From Sihanoukville we went on to Kampot, a nice quiet town on a pleasant river, famous for its pepper plantations  we bought some. This was one of our neighbours near our hotel.

Mother and child.

There was a Cham Muslim village just downriver. The early morning fish market was quite something.

And again there were lotus ponds.

My camera wasn't too active but we did take an afternoon/sunset cruise on our last day, which was relaxing and totally non- stressful. This is our vessel. Two hours and a beer - five bucks!

River life.

We weren't aware that there would be a stop to swim. I didn't have my goggles and was unwilling to risk my eyes to some potential water borne parasite, but we did enjoy the antics of the young men who entertained us with feats of derring-do.

And that's it! On to blogpost the next.
