Hue was not photogenic like Hoi An. I seem to have no pictures taken in the city at all. The food wasn't great either. But Hue's claim to fame are the tombs of the emperors which were built outside the city - on hillsides for the good views. These emperors are also not so much in the far distant past. The last of them was a puppet of the French in the early 20th century. And they only reigned for a little over 130 years - with nine emperors.
The dragon protectors on the stairs are not like those of the Thai temples. And the buildings are concrete, stained black in places.
The steps up have ornate entryways.
And guardians - military...
Educated...
And animals.
There are certainly exuberant porcelain decorations.
And the main hall of the Emperor. The statue is life sized. He actually planned and built his own tomb and spent time there before going to his great reward.
These tourists were having their photo taken. I don't think they got the "smile" memo.
Next temple - more guardians.
And lots of wide open space.
At least this emperor got a mythical being to help guard him.
And it's a beautiful building.
Note the porcelain tiles above and below. These are known as ying and yang tiles because of how they stack.
